Julie Tolmie

Julie Tolmie is a faculty member at SFU Surrey and an associate member of CECM. Her mathematical interests include mathematical visualization of abstract concepts and systems, visual mathematics, experimental mathematics; perceptual human computer interface, formalization of visual linguistic elements for perceptual HCI; navigable knowledge and tool spaces for collaborative users of the above; developing visual portals to mathematics with a view to interdisciplinary applications. Her PhD (Mathematical Sciences, Australian National University) proposed the use of visual notation in mathematics. She recently extended this work into interactive virtual environments in collaboration with the CSIRO Virtual Environments Laboratory, Canberra, Australia. She has worked in Paris for Université en Ligne, and maintains an active interest in francophone mathematics.
